ATTENTION TO ALL:

November 28th, 2009 · 11 Comments

Yesterday it came to my attention that four areas on my web site are not working correctly.  I was unaware of this because my computer does not reflect these technical errors. The areas are under the following four icons on my site’s toolbar: “My Book” ; My Articles” ; “My Favorite Quotes” , and I believe, “My Blog” page as well.  When people go to these pages the content/material (highly important information) DOES NOT SHOW UP AND IS NOT VISIBLE UNTIL YOU SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE VERY END/BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, (adjacent to “THE COLLEGE PROFESSOR” Poem on my side bar.  I do not know how long it has been like this, BUT, I ASSURE YOU I WILL CONTACT MY HOSTING COMPANY AT ONCE TO HAVE THIS CORRECTED!  I AM MOST DISAPPOINTED ABOUT THIS, HOWEVER, NOW THANKFULLY AWARE THAT VITAL INFORMATION IS UNFORTUNATELY BEING MISSED AS I HAD NO IDEA OF THIS PROBLEM.  IN THE MEANTIME PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO SEE THESE PAGES AND I AM SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE!!!

In addition, I would like to offer my sincere apologies AGAIN for what I am sure appears to be very unprofessional through out much of my website. There are many areas that require editing in the poems, articles, children’s stories sections and more on this site.  However, due to my hosting company’s policies, (hopefully in the process of change), I am unable to edit or add information to this site on my own without the risk of it crashing. The only way to do so at this time is to e-mail all of my edits, changes and new content information to the hosting company’s web maintenance team or designers.  They need to edit all old content as well as add all new content through their end.  This is due to a technical program change when they switched over to a different web design carrier (from their original html carrier, which is what I purchased this site under, to a new STML carrier, which will not work for me and all other clients who purchased under their original html carrier).  However, under the package I purchased for this site, I am only entitle to “one” hour a month of edit and add new content time combined.  After that one hour is expended, I have to pay extra for the company’s edit and/or new content time and this is quite costly. This inconvenience is presently out of my control and I am unfortunately at the mercy of losing my entire web site if I try to edit or add new content on my own.  As I have used up my one hour and more in November, I need to wait until the first of December to have my next article, the follow up to “SOME HELPFUL NEWS” entitled “ANCIENT CHINESE HERBS AND ACUPUNCTURE”, put on my site as well as have any additional editing done.  For this reason I have been referring all to where I have a link posted where you can view the new follow up article. The link is on my “Home” page, my “Contact Me” page as well as here now on my “Blog” page.

 www.michellewritesaboutbipolar.blogspot.com

Once again, I am sorry for the present inconveniences and for what may appear to be quite unprofessional on my behalf, but I assure you is not!  As of December first the follow-up article will be posted on this site and some additional edits in my poems section will be completed.  Again, this issue is out of my hands at the moment.

Thank you for understanding.

Sincerely,

~Michellewrites~

NOTE: I was told today, 12/7/09, be one of the sales & marketing reps. from my Hosting Co. that if I wanted to update my plan to a package for 4 more hours a month to be able to edit and add content to my site that it would now cost me another $899. This is because THEY switched carriers from an HTML (what I bought my web site package under) to an STML carrier. So, I ask all, should my package options change because they switched? Is it right that I have to pay all of this extra money just to be able to work with my site, add a new article or poem or even edit already existing material??? Today I informed the marketing agent of my contacts to Fox 5 News and Arnold Diaz about all of this and he showed no reaction, as a matter of fact, his answer was exactly this, “Okay.”

So many are appalled at my story of my entire two year long battle with this unnamed company and the thousands of $’s I’ve spent OVER & EXCEEDING the cost of my original contracted package plan. I am at “their” (my Hosting Company’s) mercy as I am unable to get the required FTP files to transfer my site over to a different hosting company, or do anything else with it for that matter with out it costing me an exorbitant amount of money ONCE AGAIN!!! I don’t quite understand this as I was told I am the owner of my web site and it is all copy written in my name. I FEEL TRAPPED!!!  Finally, I remain hopeful that “justice” will arise as Fox 5 News and Arnold Diaz were also referred to this specific blog.

ONE MORE NOTE:

(The reason so much prior content/material requires editing is also another reflection of this Hosting Company …at the time the material was submitted, their “Word Press” editing system was down and not working correctly.  Just having to write this both disgusts and frustrates me, yet I will try to employ the message this site was intended for and to put forth regardless.  I WILL “find my rainbow” and make the BEST of my day!!!)

I would like to thank all visitors for your support.

SOME HELPFUL NEWS!!!

October 10th, 2009 · 23 Comments

Hi All,

So sorry I’ve been away for a while, but unfortunately I had a relapse which I am still struggling to rise out of. It has been a very difficult four and a half months for me, but due to some alternative treatment options I have been made aware of, I am once again feeling hopeful and again beginning to see the colors of my rainbow.

The first option I would like to share with you was suggested to me by my boyfriend’s mother after she read an article on the relationship between chiropractic treatments and mental wellness. The theory behind this is explained by the presence and absence of brain chemicals that make us feel good. When the body is properly aligned, chemicals known as neurotransmitters are released in a specific sequence, like falling dominoes. These neurotransmitters act as messengers to send certain optimal amounts of serotonin and dopamine to the brain. Serotonin and dopamine are chemicals which when released promote a sense of happiness, pleasurable feelings and positive well-being. If however, the spinal chord is not in order, the misalignment’s can cause pressure and tension on surrounding tissue, interrupting this feel-good sequence. You can learn more about this process @ http://www.life%20chiropractic%20center/

I am also looking into acupuncture in conjunction with the chiropractic treatments. The notion behind this, aside from the general rule of thumb, “TRY EVERYTHING”, is that acupuncture is known to restore imbalances found in the body. Based on a holistic approach, acupuncture consists of fine needles inserted along various points in the body, with the purpose of stimulating the body’s flow of energy and functionality, known as Qi. Though acupuncture has been traditionally taught as a preventive form of health care, it has also been proven effective in the treatment of pain and chronic conditions. To learn more about this you can simply go to google and search “acupuncture & depression.”

Even more interesting is that a research study done back in 2002 showed the positive effects of acupuncture and bipolar disorder in which the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) awarded Southwestern’s Bipolar Disorder Clinic and Research Program a grant to further study the effects of acupuncture on bipolar disorder.

NIMH Awards Grant to Study Acupuncture for Bipolar Disorder:

For further information on the study, visit http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/

OR contact UT-Southwestern’s Bipolar Disorder Clinic and Research Program at (214) 648-7474.

A third option I am investigating involves hormones. It always struck me odd that during my pregnancy 16 years ago, I had not one symptom of either depression or bipolar illness. My days were mental trauma and incident free as well as free of any sadness. I was in my best mental state of my entire life and I had a wonderful and positive sense of well-being for 9 months. With in weeks after I gave birth my symptoms of depression and bipolar disorder began to sky rocket. I do know that during pregnancy a woman’s hormones change, increase I believe. Now in my mid-forties, I was struck with abrupt and early onset menopause when my hormones are changing yet again and I am having a very difficult time. This certainly suggests to me that hormones are playing a huge role in my bipolar and depression affliction. With this in mind, I am looking into the possibility of natural hormone replacement therapy, specifically, “Biodentical.”

I am however very cautious about this idea and will be fine tooth examining it before taking any steps towards implementation as there is a lot of controversial research out on this subject. In addition, I am even more skeptical about this because my mother is a breast cancer survivor which can be quite risky for me. If anyone has any knowledge or feedback on this particular option I would greatly appreciate it. So far, all of the advantages and positive things I have learned about it is from the “Biodentical” web site itself which could very well be marketing information. I have not met with a hormone specialist yet, but my OB-GYN has very blatantly referred me against this option claiming the hormones are not natural, they are synthetic just like all other replacement hormones for women and it is not safe. If you would like to read more about this just google “biodentical hormones” or go to: http://www.womentowomen.com/

Finally, my father came across a very interesting article about one woman’s triumph against severe depression through running. He alerted me to this immediately and instead of quoting the article piece by piece, I would just like to share the following link with you so that you can read this woman’s story on your own. It is most compelling and elicits a lot of hope!!!

When Drugs and Therapy Don’t Cure Depression, Running Will

Well, that’s all for now. Sorry I was away for so long. Still more to come on good reads of the past on Bipolar Disorder and mental health insurance issues.

I hope this has been helpful and all stay hopeful!!!

Continue to be Graced with the Colors of Life, please don’t loose site of your rainbows and continue to be well,

I just wanted you to know that it was very helpful speaking with you.  You have so much insight–earned the hard way, of course!  Just keep plugging away, Michelle, uphill as it might seem.  There’s a reason for everything, and usually we can’t figure out what it is!

Thank you for the beautiful website.  May God bless you in your travels.

Dear Michelle,

Thank you for your response.  I will write from time to time, and hopefully I can share with you as well.  I think being who you are, willing to speak up and not hide in the darkness is wonderful.  Through your education you can reach out to so many, and through the eyes of experience.  For many that makes a HUGE difference in their level of trust.
As for  “Grace You with the Colors of Life!”

I am drinking smoothies that have every color of the rainbow in the fruits and vegetables in it.  I potted a rainbow of pansies and placed them outside the window of my “perch”.  I place my spring water in a clear glass container in the morning sunlight for God to bless it with his gift of light.

Thank you for your kindness and compassion.
God bless you!

A TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER

March 12th, 2009 · No Comments

THE BEST NEEDLE IN MY HAYSTACK

On plenty of occasions I find or hear myself complaining about the man who casually slipped something into my hand the night before crowds of people came to hear me speak at my first book signing. They came to hear what I had lived through for many years and the trials and tribulations that my book speaks about; about the events and the day to day happenings that life surprises us with.  The quote that this gentleman slipped me, it reads…

“Of all the forces that make for a better world, none is so powerful as hope.  With hope, one can think, one can work, one can dream.  If you have hope, you have everything.”

The gentleman who casually slipped it to me, MY FATHER …

So, when I find myself in the throes of these complaints and then stop to think where I would be if not for my father, my perspective casually begins to slip its way back into my head… and then I think; I think:

• who tries with every last bit of energy he has to bring my spirits up when they are down, and keep them up

• who is relentless about seeing my face with a smile
• who is my number 1 supporter whenever I need backing
• who is always there when I’m in need or in trouble
• who will do or give practically anything to make sure I’m happy

…and after I am through thinking I feel “hopeful.” With that hope, I can think more, I can work more and I can dream more.  It is then, and only then, that I know “I have everything because I have my father – THE BEST NEEDLE IN MY HAYSTACK!!!”

SOME QUOTES FOR A SPECIAL DRAGONFLY

December 17th, 2008 · No Comments

“SHOOT FOR THE MOON…EVEN IF YOU DON’T MAKE IT, YOU’RE CERTAIN TO LAND AMONG THE STARS!!!”

“Even on those seemingly

 unforgiving harsh and relentless days,

 there is ALWAYS a

RAINBOW of HOPE’

in the distance.”

“The art of life is to know how to enjoy a little and

how to endure very much.”

“I’d rather believe I know what I’m destined for

in life and ‘go for it’ than waste

time wondering about it;

I choose to believe from here on,

it’s all good!!!”

AND FINALLY,

“Fragility no longer manifests other than in

a positive light!”

I see you and I see sunshine and bright colors,

laughing faces and pretty places.

I see hope and happiness;

determination and light.

I see you and I see angels flying bright

and doves whiter than white.

But, of all the things I see at large,

the one that means the most to me

is a special dragonfly that soars through the night.

With it’s wings of rainbow colors, it brings

me peace and tranquility

to endless skies of serenity;

it brings me to a special place

and there I see your smiling face.

You have all the STRENGTH

and COURAGE in the

world!!!

With Love,

      Your Dragonfly

IN MEMORY OF JOHN GREG MYERS

IN MEMORY OF JOHN GREG MYERS

 More of Something

By John Greg Myers

I gaze about the pale sky

In twilight,

The glistening sparkle of the river;

Oh, how it flows without troubles and anxieties…

But we all want more of something.

But never is a desire for pain.

Everyone wants more of anything:

More love,

Moer money,

More peace within…

But the river wants nothing more,

Than its freedom to flow.

No one knows us,

Who we really are inside

What we wish to gain,

To have endless boundaries

Of sanctity without regret,

And light within our darkened spaces.

In another world

Before anything had a soul

There was never a desire for more,

Life was as it was;

The long ages…

Before the Gods were created

Life existed and life perished

Without man and his endless needs;

And now we want more of anything.

The nature of man is inherent of this

As I ponder with my gaze;

The river flows on without greed.

He claimed we all wanted “more of something”, while HE wanted “more of nothing”, nothing other than what any human being should have on some, if not most, days to experience…days free of troubles and anxieties, like… “the glistening sparkle of the river… AND OH, HOW IT FLOWS.” “Never a desire for pain”, yet in the short time I knew him, never once did I hear him complain!

John Gregory Myers, known as Greg by most, was a Military Veteran, a scholar by his own means, and a BRILLIANT writer.  He lived a complicated life marked by tumultuous battles of illness and “darkened spaces.”  In spite of this, Greg shared the greatest gifts imaginable with the public.  These are only a few of them:

  • His introspective and reflective nature
  • His ability to admit his faults and start again
  • His utmost freedom and compassion in his words to others
  • His overflowing generosity of kind words of praise and encouragement to fellow writers
  • His well crafted and highly thought out constructive and time consuming criticism
  • His gift of language in its most eloquent form
  • His love of poetry as well as his respect for it
  • His “forge-on and don’t give up” strength and attitude
  • His lack of greed and complaint
  • His truly genuine soul
  • And finally, in my eyes, John’s most outstanding quality was his desire for never really wanting “more of something” other than PEACE in this world

I would  like to leave you all with two messages that Greg recently wrote to me. These passages truly speak to the character of Mr. John Greg Myers:

  1.   As I keep reading your poetry, I get more inspired to let my feelings    flow on  paper.  In my opinion, since I have read most of your work,   you are one of the most creative poets of this day and age

Keep writing…and God Speed

John Greg Myers

November 8, 2008

   2.   Michelle Michelle….in such a short time period of condensed decades, I have   learned, witnessed, and lived the nature of human beings, and how it is in our nature to destroy ourselves. I have also learned, through experiencing loss of loved ones, that our time is so short here.  Look at us.  We live amongst a world of humans who’s goal is to build machines that automate the thought process of man; machines without emotion…machines that cannot love and understand the emotions and feelings of humans; machines built to destroy what we have learned to love.  These machines, which one day may rule the destiny of man, will never ever know love, loss, pain or truly recognize beautiful poetry, nor the true meaning and understanding of it.  Our future is set…and our eminent fate is what we make of ourselves.

Live poetry, and you will celebrate life.  Write poetry, and you will celebrate your human ability to always love and cherish what you love.

You are damn good, girl!

John Greg Myers

November 1

...Greg’s thought provoking words and ideas were simply implausible. They showed a brilliance to his mind and spoke to his emotional sensitivity and character like that of very few talented and gifted individuals. To describe him as exceptional would be genuinely lacking …and, he certainly did have“More of Something!”  The irony here is that he thought I was the great writer/poet.

Greg died one week shy of his 51st birthday.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOHN GREGORY MYERS:

IN YOUR ETERNAL LIFE YOU ARE

“THE GLISTENING SPARKLE OF THE RIVER”

“WANTING NOTHING MORE.”

MAY YOU BE

“FREE TO FLOW”

AND FEEL NO MORE

“DARKENED SPACES”

AND MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE

“MORE OF EVERYTHING!”

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE

With the Greatest Respect,

Michelle Longo-Bloom
